Kewell 8.5MW Alkaline Electrolyzer Test Platform Ships Successfully

Publish Time: 19 / 08 / 2025

Following the delivery of the 5MW alkaline electrolyzer test platform, Kewell achieves another milestone - on August 7, 2025, the 8.5MW alkaline electrolyzer test platform was officially shipped. This marks Kewell’s technological leap in high-power electrolyzer testing solutions.

The 8.5MW platform, designed to 10MW specifications, comprises six containerized modules: test system, electrolyzer, purification unit, auxiliary system, power supply, and office. It boasts complete functions. In terms of performance, the platform supports hydrogen production testing with a capacity of 100~2000Nm³/h, and boundary testing with power operating conditions of 10%~120% combined with gas production pressure ranging 300kPag to 3.2MPag, enabling comprehensive evaluation of electrolyzers.

The platform features complete testing functions, supporting tests such as polarization curve, renewable energy (wind/solar) simulation, dynamic response, accelerated durability, stable operation at various power points, and cold/hot starting. At the same time, it can monitor cell voltage and the hydrogen content in oxygen at the outlet of the electrolyzer in real time, and capture the changes of the electrolyzer under different operating conditions. It meets the requirements of testing under various operating conditions, and provides data support for the improvement of electrolyzer performance and quality.

In terms of safety, the platform is built based on HAZOP and LOPA, adopting PLC and SIS dual-loop monitoring while complying with the requirements of relevant standards for pressure vessels, pressure pipelines, and explosion protection. In addition, the platform features automatic operation with safety protection at both software and hardware levels, as well as fast dynamic response and rapid gas sampling and analysis. It can be adapted to the application scenarios of “one-to-many” and “one-to-one”, which helps to improve the efficiency and safety of testing.

Kewell has been deeply engaged in the field of hydrogen energy testing. Its electrolyzer testing products have formed a complete spectrum from MEA to thousand-Nm³/h level, with a wealth of application cases. Among them, MW-level cases include the 1MW PEM electrolyzer test system, the 2.5MW

PEM electrolyzer test platform, and the 5MW ALK electrolyzer test platform (first set in China). Kewell provides customers with integrated testing solutions covering performance evaluation, process optimization, product verification, safety assessment, and engineering construction.
